What is animation or whiteboard explainer video?
Animation is an increasingly popular tool to communicate what might be an otherwise dry message. For those of you who are familiar with animation but not whiteboard videos, also called explainer videos, skip ahead to where we answer whether or not we make whiteboard explainer videos. Both can be a creative way to get your message heard, however, original animation videos are definitely the most effective of the two.
Are you an animation company?
Yes, but not exclusively. We do produce animated videos all the time, but this style of video is one of a dozen others that we produce on a regular basis.
Do you make whiteboard explainer videos?
We’re not opposed to whiteboard explainer videos, however, this style of animation is becoming so common that it has lost a lot of its original shine. In 2011, whiteboard videos were unheard of. They peaked in interest in 2017 and have lost their steam since, falling below half of the interest they used to have in just a 3 year period. For this reason, we almost always create an original animation that is completely new for the viewers. See the image below. (Google Trends, 2020)
Can I add animation to any type of video?
Yes, any video can include animation. On-screen animations (added on top of original footage) are very common, however, “animated videos” are usually made up of entertaining graphics, featuring snippets of original video or photos throughout.
Why would I want an animated video?
Here are the top two reasons clients have us produce animation videos…
1. They have lots of photos and graphics but no one is interested in being on camera.
2. Their story needs something to make it POP!
Animation allows you to tell your story in a way that is completely customized to your preference. Outside factors are limited, allowing a faster production cycle that can turn around a beautiful and engaging video in half the time of an original video with interviews and B-roll. You can easily emphasize the key parts of your message in a memorable way that stands out to the viewer increasing conversion metrics.
